Overview of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal

Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)
Swayambhunath is an ancient stupa situated on a hill in the Kathmandu Valley. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is adorned with the iconic Buddha eyes on each side of the stupa. The site provides panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley.

Pharping Monastery and Caves
Pharping is a sacred site with monasteries and caves associated with Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), an important figure in Tibetan Buddhism. Yangleshö is a cave where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated. Asura cave is a cave sacred to Guru Rinpoche. It is also known as the 'Upper cave of Yangleshö.

Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in Nepal and is a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists. The stupa is adorned with colorful prayer flags and is surrounded by numerous monasteries, making it a hub of Buddhist activities.

Kopan Monastery
Kopan Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located on the outskirts of Kathmandu. It is known for its teachings on Buddhism and meditation courses. Pilgrims often visit Kopan to participate in retreats and spiritual programs.

Namobuddha
Namo Buddha is a sacred site where, according to legend, Buddha in a previous life sacrificed himself to feed a hungry tigress and her cubs. There is a monastery and a stupa at the site, and it is a peaceful place for meditation and reflection.

Lumbini
Lumbini is the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became Buddha. The sacred garden in Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to the Maya Devi Temple, which marks the exact spot where Buddha was born.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel
Our representative will pick you up from the international airport and transfer you to the hotel. Check-in hotel and give you sometime for refreshment after that tour operator will deeply brief about your tour program and ask you to pay the due of tour bill. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Sightseeing to Swayambhunath and Pharping monastery
You start your tour to the Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. It is one of the oldest stupas in Kathmandu. After visiting the Swayambhunath, you will drive towards the Pharping. Visit the Pharping Monastery, Asura and Yanglesho? caves. After Pharping visit drive back to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 03: Sightseeing to Boudhanath stupa, Kopan and Namobuddha monastery
Today you will visit one of the largest stupas, the Boudhanath stupa. From there, you will drive to Kopan Monastery, where we can experience the daily life of the monks and nuns up close. After lunch, further drive you to Namobuddha. Visit the monastery and the surrounding area. Overnight stay in the guesthouse of the monastery, dinner with the monks. 

Day 04: Namobuddha drive to Lumbini
The sunrise and Himalayan ranges are beautiful from NamoBuddha, so it is best to wake up early in the morning, even the monks will start chanting and praying there. After breakfast with the monks, we will drive to Lumbini, the birthplace of the Lord Buddha. It takes around 7 to 8 hours to reach Lumbini following the Prithivi Highway and East-West Highway from Narayanghat. Lumbini is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the Buddhist world since it is thought to be the location of the Buddha's birth. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 05: Visit Lumbini
After your breakfast, Visit Lumbini. Maya Devi temple, Pond, Ashoka pillar, Place of meditation and many monasteries around Lumbini. After visit Lumbini drive back to hotel. 
Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 06: Lumbini Drive to Kathmandu
After the breakfast at Lumbini we drive back to Kathmandu which is 260 km along the forest and Trisuli River. When you reach in Kathmandu you have free time for your last minute shopping. In the evening, we will offer you farewell dinner in Nepali typical restaurant with culture program. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 07: Depart from Kathmandu
We drop you to international airport for your final departure. It is important to reach international airport 3 hours before from your original flight time.
