Upper Dolpo Trek Route and Itinerary

Day 01

Arrive Kathmandu

After you arrive in Kathmandu airport please check our company board outside the main gate there will be our airport representative you will meet with him, and he will be transferred to hotel by private vehicle and our representative will help you to check in your hotel after that if time enough, representative will take you to our office for short briefing about the trip but if not enough time then give a short trip brief in hotel and request to pay the due balance for the trip. Day 02

Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek Preparation

After breakfast, Kathmandu visits Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Boudhanath Stupa which are all World Heritage Sites. Durbar Square throws light on the life of the royals in ancient times. Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most important pilgrimage places for all Hindus. Swayambhunath is also known as Monkey Temple and Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world. Late in the afternoon, we introduced you to your mountain/trek guide. overnight at Hotel

Day 03

Kathmandu flight to Nepalgunj (152m)

Today, take a short flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a city in southwestern Nepal near the Indian border. Upon arrival at 152 meters above sea level, you’ll transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay. Nepalgunj is a warm, flat city that serves as a gateway to western Nepal and the Dolpo region. You can relax at the hotel or explore the local bazaar before your early flight to Juphal the next morning. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 04

Flight Nepalgunj to Juphal (2,400m), Trek to Dunai (2,140m)

After a scenic morning flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal, the trek begins with a gentle descent through terraced fields and villages. The trail follows the Bheri River, passing Kalagauda, and continues for about 2–3 hours to reach Dunai, the district headquarters of Dolpa. Dunai offers basic lodges and a chance to explore the local culture before heading deeper into the remote Dolpo region. Overnight at Teahouse/Guesthouse.

Day 05

Dunai trek to Chhepka (2,838m):

The trek from Dunai to Chhepka (2,838m) takes around 6–7 hours, following the Bheri River before joining the Suli River after Sulighat, where you enter Shey Phoksundo National Park. The trail passes through lush pine and maple forests, crosses several suspension bridges, and winds past small villages with gradual ascents. Surrounded by nature, Chhepka offers a peaceful atmosphere with basic facilities. Overnight at camp.

Day 06

Chhepka trek to Chunuwar (3,110m)

The trek from Chhepka (2,838m) to Chunuwar (3,110m) takes about 5–6 hours, gradually ascending along the Suli River. The trail passes through pine, fir, and juniper forests, with views of surrounding peaks and occasional suspension bridges. As you reach Chunuwar, the landscape becomes more rugged with alpine meadows. The small village offers basic teahouses or camping for a peaceful overnight stop before continuing deeper into Dolpo. Day 07

Chunuwar trek to Phoksundo Lake (3,612m)

The trek from Chunuwar to Phoksundo Lake (3,612m) takes about 5–6 hours, following a gradually ascending trail through rugged terrain and alpine meadows. The path winds through forested areas before reaching the lake, with stunning views of surrounding peaks and waterfalls. As you approach Phoksundo Lake, its turquoise waters and the dramatic cliffs surrounding it create a breathtaking sight. Overnight at Camp.

Day 08

Rest day - Excursion around Phoksundo Lake

A rest day to explore Phoksundo Lake (3,612m). You can take a leisurely walk around the lake, enjoying views of its turquoise waters and the surrounding snow-capped peaks. A visit to the Phoksundo Monastery offers a peaceful atmosphere and insight into the region’s spiritual culture. The day allows time to relax, acclimatize, and enjoy the beauty of one of Nepal’s most stunning locations before continuing your trek. Overnight at Camp.

Day 09

Phoksundo Lake trek to Phoksundo Khola (3,630m)

The trek from Phoksundo Lake to Phoksundo Khola (3,630m) takes around 5–6 hours, gradually ascending through alpine meadows and rugged terrain. The trail winds along the western side of the lake, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks and waterfalls. As you approach Phoksundo Khola, you’ll cross several streams and pass through rocky areas, eventually reaching the river that marks the campsite for the night, offering a peaceful setting amid the wilderness.

Day 10

Phoksundo Khola trek to Phoksundo Bhanjyang (4,420m)

The trek from Phoksundo Khola (3,630m) to Phoksundo Bhanjyang (4,420m) takes about 5–6 hours, with a steady ascent through alpine meadows and rocky terrain. The trail climbs gradually, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. As you approach Phoksundo Bhanjyang, the landscape becomes more rugged and remote. At 4,420m, this high-altitude pass offers a peaceful campsite with panoramic views, making it an ideal spot for acclimatization and rest before continuing the trek. Overnight at Camp.

Day 11

Trek to Shey Gompa (4,200m) via Kang-La pass (5,360m)

The trek from Phoksundo Bhanjyang (4,420m) to Shey Gompa (4,200m) over the Kang-La Pass (5,360m) takes about 7–8 hours. The challenging ascent to the pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. After crossing the pass, the trail descends steeply, winding through rocky terrain and alpine meadows before reaching Shey Gompa. Nestled in a serene valley, Shey Gompa is a tranquil monastery, providing a peaceful retreat to rest and acclimatize before continuing the journey. Overnight Camp.

Day 12

Rest day at Shey Gompa - Explore Around

A rest day at Shey Gompa (4,200m) allows you to explore the nearby Crystal Monastery, known for its spiritual significance and stunning location. You can also visit Tsakang Gompa (4,575m), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. This day provides a perfect opportunity to acclimatize, enjoy panoramic views of the peaks and valleys, and soak in the serene beauty of the region before continuing your trek. Overnight at Camp.

Day 13

Shey Gompa to Namgung (4,430m) via Shey La (5,000m)

The trek from Shey Gompa (4,200m) to Namgung (4,430m) via Shey La (5,000m) takes about 6–7 hours. The trail ascends steadily towards Shey La, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. After crossing the pass, the descent leads to Namgung, a small village perched at 4,430m, known for its scenic beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The day provides a good opportunity to acclimatize while enjoying the breathtaking landscapes before continuing further into the Dolpo region. Overnight at Camp.

Day 14

Namgung trek to Saldang (4,210m)

The trek from Namgung (4,430m) to Saldang (4,210m) takes about 5–6 hours. The trail descends gradually, passing through rocky terrain and small villages along the way. You’ll enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and traditional Dolpo villages. Saldang, a larger village at 4,210m, is known for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful landscape. Overnight at Camp.

Day 15

Saldang trek Sibu (4,000m)

The trek from Saldang (4,210m) to Sibu (4,000m) takes about 5–6 hours, descending through rocky terrain and crossing small streams. The trail winds through remote villages, where you’ll experience the traditional lifestyle of the local Dolpo people, and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. As you approach Sibu, the landscape becomes more serene and isolated, with open spaces and a peaceful atmosphere. Sibu, situated at 4,000m, offers a great spot to rest before continuing your journey. Overnight at Camp.

Day 16

Sibu trek to Lagmo Che (4,570m)

The trail starts with an easy stretch, following the river. The last village you pass is Raka. After this, you enter a large, inhabited valley—keep an eye out for blue sheep and, with luck, a snow leopard. After about 2 hours of trekking, the path veers away from the river and climbs steeply to a meadow at around 4,570m, often grazed by yaks. This is Lagmo Che, the base camp for ascending Jeng La. Overnight at Camp.

Day 17

Lagmo Che to Tokyu (4,209m) via Jeng La (5,090)

The trek from Lagmo Che (4,570m) to Tokyu (4,209m) via Jeng La Pass (5,090m) takes about 7–8 hours. The day begins with a challenging ascent to the pass, offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. After crossing the pass, the trail descends steeply through rocky terrain and alpine meadows, leading to the village of Tokyu. Tokyu, at 4,209m, is a peaceful village where you can rest and enjoy the remote beauty of the Dolpo region. Overnight at Camp

Day 18

Tokyu trek to Do Tarap (4,090m)

The trek from Tokyu (4,209m) to Do Tarap (4,090m) takes about 2–3 hours. The trail gradually descends through scenic valleys, passing small villages and terraced fields. Along the way, you'll enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and the Tarap River. Do Tarap, located at 4,090m, is a larger village known for its Tibetan Buddhist culture and beautiful landscapes, providing a great place to rest and explore. Overnight at Camp.

Day 19

Dho Tarap trek to Sisaul (3,500m)

Today is a shorter day, allowing ample time to explore Dho Tarap (4,090m) in the morning. As you leave, the trail passes numerous mani walls and Chortens, gradually descending along the Tarap Khola. The landscape becomes greener with shrubs and bushes. Before reaching Sisaul (3,500m), there's a short climb to a small pass at 3,700m. After the pass, the valley narrows, and a brief descent brings you to Sisaul. The trek takes about 4–5 hours, with a well-established campsite awaiting you. Overnight at Hotel

Day 20

Sisaul to Laina Odar (3,370m)

The trek from Sisaul (3,500m) to Laina Odar (3,370m) takes about 7–8 hours. The trail includes a climb to a small pass, followed by a descent to Nawarpani (3–3½ hours). After Nawarpani, the path becomes greener, with pine forests, and continues for another 3–4 hours to reach Laina Odar. Overnight at Camp

Day 21

Laina Odar trek to Lingdo (2,391m)

From Laina Odar, the trail descends steeply to Laisicap (2,772m) in about 3 hours, passing through forests of spruce, fir, and juniper. At Laisicap, cross a 120-meter suspension bridge over the Thuli Bheri River, then continue steeply downhill for 45 minutes. The path flattens and gradually descends through lush scenery, with occasional views of Kang Tokal (6,294m) and Sarakot, the first villages after Dho Tarap. The trail passes mani walls and chortens, leading to Lingdo, a small village with a guesthouse and campsite, inhabited by a Buddhist Trail Magar community. Overnight at Camp.

Day 22

Lingdo trek to Dunai (2,140m)

The trek from Lingdo to Dunai (2,140m) takes about 6–7 hours. The trail gradually descends through lush forests, following the Thuli Bheri River. As you approach Dunai, the landscape becomes more developed, passing through small villages along the way. Dunai marks the end of your trek, offering a place to relax and reflect on your journey. Overnight at Teahouse/Guesthouse.

Day 23

Dunai trek to Juphal (2,400m)

The trek from Dunai (2,140m) to Juphal (2,400m) takes about 3–4 hours. The trail follows the Thuli Bheri River and gradually ascends through terraced fields and small villages. As you approach Juphal, you’ll pass through scenic landscapes with views of the surrounding mountains. Juphal is the gateway to the airstrip, marking the end of your trek before you catch your flight out. Overnight at Teahouse/Guesthouse.

Day 24

Flight from Juphal to Nepalgunj, then Flight to Kathmandu

On the final day of your trek, you’ll take a flight from Juphal to Nepalgunj. After arriving in Nepalgunj, catch a connecting flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, your trek comes to an end, and you can rest or explore the city before continuing with your onward journey.

Day 25

Rest and Buffer Day in Kathmandu

Today, you have a leisure day to relax or shop in Kathmandu. You can either explore the city on your own or consult with the company to arrange extra activities like sightseeing tours or cultural experiences. Overnight at hotel.

Day 26

Drive to Kathmandu Airport for Your Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to your own destination. Our services end here. Have a safe journey and see you again!

Overview & Essentials

Typically, packages include accommodation, meals during the trek, guide and porter services, permits, and ground transportation. Flight costs, insurance, and personal expenses are usually excluded.
While prior trekking experience helps, most treks are designed to be achievable with average fitness. Some high-altitude treks may require conditioning or preparation beforehand.
There is no strict age limit, but participants should be reasonably fit. Trekkers above 60 or with health conditions should consult a doctor before the trip.

Arrival & Visa

Accommodation & Facilities

Accommodations are usually in local lodges or tea houses with basic amenities—clean beds, shared bathrooms, and dining halls.
Some lodges offer hot showers for an additional fee, but availability may be limited at higher altitudes.
Charging is available in most lodges for a fee. Power supply may be limited or solar-based, so bring a power bank as backup.

Packing & Gear

You’ll need layered clothing, good trekking boots, a daypack, a sleeping bag (if not provided), and basic toiletries. A detailed packing list will be shared upon booking.
