Tamang Heritage Trail Trek

Tamang Heritage Trek

Tamang Heritage Trail Trek is a newly introduced trail lying north of Kathmandu. It is possible to do only Tamang heritage trek or with Langtang Valley. Tamang Heritage trek is a relatively new trail for excellent walk, either on its own or in conjunction with a Langtang Valley trek. Tamang Heritage trek is one of the nearest trekking destination from Kathmandu lies an unparalleled combination of natural beauty and cultural riches of Langtang, Rasuwa. Langtang has over 70 glaciers of varying sizes, the Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges, and high altitude lakes including Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, and Dudhkunda. The people in this place are mostly of Tamang and Tibetan origin, whose culture goes back to hundreds of years.

The craftsmanship, dress, traditionally built stone houses, and the beautifully carved wooden porches reflect their rich Himalayan heritage. Partly protected as Langtang National Park, visit to the area gives Himalayan nature experience and an insight into the lifestyle and culture of the Tamangs who are predominant inhabitants of the region.

Located about 120 km toward the north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border, Langtang was previously a restricted area. Extending in an east-west direction, it is bordered on the north by the main crest of the Himalayas, dominated by Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), the highest peak in the area. To the south are the Chimse Danda (ridge), crossed by the Ganja La pass (5,122 m), and Jugal Himal, culminating in Dorje Lakpa (6,989 m). Glaciers spawned by the slopes of Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung and other peaks feed the Langtang Khola (river).

The Langtang River passes through the high, gentle Langtang Valley before emptying in a raging torrent into the Bhote Kosi River through a long, narrow defile at the west end of the valley. Whereas the major rivers of Nepal flow south from Tibet cutting through the Himalayan chain, the Langtang Khola, a major tributary of the Trisuli Ganga, flows east to west, cutting, as it were, across the grain of the country.

The Trisuli, or Bhote Kosi as it becomes above Dhunche, forms an important corridor and ancient trade route through the mountains between the Ganesh and Langtang Himal, to Kerung in Tibet.Langtang valley, indigenous tamang culture and Gosainkunda are the prime attractions of this region.

New trekking trail: Tamang Heritage Trail, offers yet another option and a peek at the Himalayan lifestyle and culture. The unexplored part of the Langtang National Park has recently been connected with Tamang Heritage Trail. Tamang heritage trail trek is very famous to know the Tamang and Tibetan culture, nature beauty and visiting in Tibet border Rasuwagadi to know the Tibet trade center and their custom.

Tamang Heritage Trek can be enhanced with Langtang Valley Trek or Gosaikunda Trek or both. If you would like to extend the itinerary please contact us.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi about 7/8 hours drive
Leave Kathmandu early for the seven-hour drive to the entrance of the Langtang Valley. While the Tamang Heritage Trail is not so far from Kathmandu, the road is hilly and winding (though spectacular), climbing high and providing us with superb panoramic views of the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the peaks of the Langtang region. The road then plunges down to the Trisuli River valley, which it follows for most of the day’s drive. Overnight at teahouse/Lodge

Day 04: Syabrubesi trek to Gatlang (2238m) about 6 hours walking
Syabrubesi is the common starting point for the Langtang Valley trek as well as the Gosainkund trek, but instead of heading in these directions, ascend a viewpoint for an hour and a half for a fantastic view of Ganesh Himal, the Gosainkund range, and the Goljang Valley. Head down to the Goljang Valley (about an hour’s walk) and stop there for lunch. In the afternoon, trek for about three hours to reach Gatlang, a beautiful Tamang village. Overnight at teahouse/Lodge

Day 05: Gatlang to Tatopani (2607m) about 7 hours walking
Today’s walk begins by descending to Thangbuchet, by a lovely river. After lunch, the trail heads up again, across a hanging bridge and climbing to Tatopani, your stop for the night. The town’s name literally means ‘hot water’ in Nepali, and there are towns of this name all over Nepal. Unsurprisingly, here you can enjoy the natural hot springs, with water that comes straight out of the ground. Locals believe that the waters have a healing quality, and it will certainly ease away any aches and pains from the trek. Overnight at community lodge

Day 06: Tatopani to Thuman (2338m) about 4 hours walking
Today, the trail ascends to Nagthali Danda (3,300 m./ 10,826 ft.), a high, open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas. Stop at the delightful Brimdang village for lunch en route, then continue up to Nagthali Danda. On arrival, stop for a masala chiya (tea), prepared by the gompa’s caretaker. Then, continue down to Thuman, a Tamang village with friendly people. Overnight at community lodge

Day 07: Thuman to Briddim (2229m) about 5 hours walking
Today’s walk begins along a flatter section of trail, then descends to Timure. It follows part of the old trade route to Tibet, and in fact, Tibet is not far away-just three hours’ walk. However, it’s not possible to walk across the border these days, and there’s a heavy police presence along the roads in this area. After lunch, the trail continues to Briddim, another Tamang village, where you’ll stay in a local home for a truly unique experience. All accommodation, lodgings, and food are offered at local houses on a rotational basis, so you can be sure that your stay is benefitting the whole community and not just one or two enterprising families (as is sometimes the case with hotels and lodges).

Day 08: Briddim trek to Syabrubesi (1503m) about 3 hours walking
Today is an easy three-hour walk back down to Syabrubesi. Have lunch there, and then spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring. Syabrubesi is a small town, and there are some shops selling local handicrafts made by women, such as colorful aprons and shawls in the local style. Overnight at teahouse

Day 09: Syabrubesi drive to Kathmandu (1350m) 7/8 hours drive
Today early in the morning we catch the public bus to Kathmandu or if you have booked private vehicle through our company then private vehicle (Jeep/Land cruiser or bus depend on group size) will pick up from Syabru Besi then drive to Kathmandu. It takes about 7/8 hours drive through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel
