  • Overview of the trek

The Renjo La and Cho La Pass trek is a challenging journey that traverses rugged terrain, high-altitude passes, and remote villages. This trek begins and ends in Lukla, a small town with an airport that serves as the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, the trail heads north, passing through traditional Sherpa villages, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and lush forests, as well as the stunning Gokyo glacial lakes and glaciers.

Hikers will have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains, including Mount Everest, on their way to Renjo La Pass and Cho La Pass. Renjo La Pass is considered challenging, reaching an altitude of 5,360 meters, while Cho La Pass is moderately difficult, at an altitude of 5,420 meters.

The trek to these two passes is strenuous and requires a good level of physical fitness, but the panoramic views of the mountain ranges and glaciers make it all worthwhile. Typically, this trek takes 16 to 19 days to complete. It is regarded as one of the most rewarding treks in Nepal, as it allows trekkers to explore the beautiful Himalayas, experience the unique Sherpa culture, and see the world's highest mountain up close.

The Renjo La and Cho La Pass Trek, combined with a visit to Everest Base Camp, spans 19 days and takes you to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar via the two passes. After reaching Kala Patthar, you'll trek downhill, passing through several villages, including Dingboche and Tengboche, on your way back to Lukla. From there, you'll take an early morning flight to Kathmandu.

Highlights of the Renjo La & Cho La Pass Trek

    • Crossing two iconic high mountain passes (Renjo La and Cho La).
    • Insane views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and more.
    • Tranquil Gokyo Lakes and epic sunrise from Gokyo Ri.
    • Remote Sherpa villages like Thame and Dzongla.
    • Everest Base Camp + Kala Patthar add-on (optional but highly recommended).

"We had excellent weather conditions for the two passes (Renjo La Pass and Cho La Pass) trek and Everest Base Camp. Our guide and porter were excellent. As we are aged 68 and 73 years old we needed some additional help from our guide to help us down some very steep and slippery sections of the trail. But all went well."
