Rapid or Short Everest Base Camp Trek - 14 Days

Rapid Everest Base Camp Trek

The Rapid or Short Everest Base Camp Trek Program is designed for those who have limited time but want to trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal. In fact, reaching Mount Everest Base Camp is almost a trekker's dream, so why not go for this trek yourself, even if you have limited time. A minimum of 14 days are required in Nepal to complete the full version of the traditional Everest Base Camp trek. It is an 14-day itinerary that requires a brisk walk as compared to other normal trekkers. The trek takes you to the base camp (5364 m) of Mount Everest and the top of Kala Patthar (5545 m) for amazing mountain views with excellent sunrise. The trek starts after a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and ends at Lukla.

The fastest trek to Everest Base Camp is between 10 and 11 days of hiking. This is the shortest journey without a helicopter ride. The trek route passes through Sherpa villages and old Tibetan Buddhist monasteries (gompas), mani stones whose shapes echo from the mountains, prayer wheels so large that they take our full body-weight to turn, ice-cold rivers and the world’s highest suspension bridge, mossy forests and bare, high-altitude rock-scapes. And of course, the views of the highest mountains in the world, Everest and Ama Dablam are the most spectacular among them.

The trek route/trail is inside the Sagarmatha National Park (Sagarmatha is the Nepali name for Everest), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a refuge for musk deer, red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, black bear, and pheasant. The prime trekking season brings serious crowds on this trek. The best time to trek Everest Base Camp is in spring and autumn, but it is possible to trek Everest Base Camp anytime of the year without any difficulty.

Rapid Everest Base Camp Trek will also cover all the destinations but you need to walk fast and there is no extra day to adapt to the high altitude during the whole trekking. This trek is one of the most famous treks in the world to witness the great views of the Himalayas and the native Sherpas and their culture. Of course, the main goal of this trek is to reach the base camp of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. However, the trip is not complete without climbing Kala Patthar (also spelled out as Kalapathar) offers a better view than Everest Base Camp.

Nepal’s Everest Base Camp is quite different from other Base Camps treks in Nepal because we can’t see the best view of Mount Everest even from the Everest Base Camp (5364 meters) means there are other insanely tall mountains blocking some view of Mount Everest so most of the trekkers climb the non-technical peak Kala Patthar (5545 meters) for the best views of Mount Everest and surrounding Himalayas. After the summit of Kala Patthar, get down to Gorakshep and start your trek back to Lukla, which takes a few days to reach where your trek ends. From Lukla, you will get an exciting early morning flight to Kathmandu.

Soon thereafter, we will approach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park for a brief permit check and then descend to the Dudh Kosi River (spotting Mani stones along the way!) en route to Jorsale. Lunch will be served here, and then it’s uphill to Namche. Our path along the riverbank is flanked by two crossings, one of which is the Hillary Suspension Bridge. It’s a tough climb up the hill to our resting place, but you’ll be rewarded in Namche Bazaar with your first glimpse of Everest in its majesty. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

After a small rest, we have a steep climb to Tengboche, the site of the largest gompa (Buddhist monastery) in the region. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 06: Tengboche trek to Dingboche (4410m)
Our trek today kicks off with a walk through the rhododendron forest to Deboche followed by a bridge over the raging Imja Khol River. Enjoy a great opportunity to observe a typical Sherpa village and have lunch with the locals! The intrepid can brave a brief hike to the Pangboche monastery, one of the oldest in the area. Our afternoon trek will be a difficult one, as the landscape gives way to dry; deserted mountains and we hike towards Dingboche. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 07: Dingboche trek to Lobuche (4910m)
The trail climbs steeply out of Dingboche past a chorten and ascends the valley gradually to Dugla at the end of the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. From here we have a short, steep climb up to Chukpo Lari, a beautiful, yet a poignant place where there is a line of memorials in tribute to the climbers who have died on Everest and from where we have a beautiful panorama of the peaks lying on the Nepal-Tibet border. The trail then eases off as we follow the valley to Lobuche, a tiny hamlet with a few teahouses. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 08: Lobuche trek to Gorak Shep (5140m) and Everest base camp (5364m)
The trail now leads along the Khumbu Glacier, providing excellent vistas of the Himalayan peaks nearby. Lunch is at Gorak Shep, and then we are back on the trail for a few hours until we reach Everest Base Camp. We will pass lesser glaciers, ice pinnacles, and the sometimes dangerous crevasses of the Khumbu along the way. The return trip to Gorak Shep is made along a higher path overlooking the Khumbu Icefall. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 09: Gorak Shep Hike to Kala Pattar (5545m) then trek to Pheriche (4260m)
We’ll wake before dawn today to trek towards Kala patthar (5545m) for the best views of a glorious sunrise over Mt. Everest. The day’s first light will decorate spectacular the view of Nuptse, Changtse and Lhotse. This may be in the whole journey, offer a most opportune moment to snap amazing pictures of Mount Everest and its neighboring peaks. Afterwards, it’s back to Gorekshep for breakfast and down in the direction of Pheriche, our nighttime stop. Our pace will be a lot brisker as we descend, and the walking is easier going this way. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 10: Pheriche trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)
Today’s trail descends to Debouche, rises through rhododendron forest to Tengboche. A long descent, leads back to Phunki Thenga before the climb to Sanasa (where the trail forked to Gokyo). The walk along the broad trail to Namche Bazaar is easy. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 11: Namche Bazaar trek to Lukla (2840m)
Today is the final descent into Lukla (2840m). On the way, you will trek through the forest of rhododendrons and pine until reaching the Sherpa village. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to say a final goodbye and thanks to the local team staff before moving on to Lukla. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 12: Lukla flight to Kathmandu (1350m)
Flights to Kathmandu are generally early in the morning so you may have breakfast at teahouse early in the morning then check in the airport to fly back in Kathmandu (1350m). After arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your Hotel then end your trip.

Day 13: Reserve Day in Kathmandu
Lukla gets occasional flight delays during the main season. This may cause missing your international flights as well, so we recommend you to prepare accordingly. Lukla suffers from quick weather changes and that may affect inbound and outbound flights. We reserved this day for possible flight delays. If we have a timely flight on DAY 12, we can use this day for rest in Kathmandu. You can shop around local markets and walk around the city. Overnight at Hotel

Day 14: Depart Kathmandu or extend your trip
We will drop you at the airport by our private vehicle according to your airport time. It is recommended to reach the airport at least two hours prior to departure.
