Jiri (188 km from Kathmandu) is the oldest starting point for Everest trekking, but nowadays you can also travel by bus to Bhandar, which is 36 km from Jiri and can be reached in a day from Kathmandu. The journey by local bus takes about 9 hours, but a private jeep is a little quicker.

The trek from Jiri Bazaar to the Gokyo Valley follows the old route used by the Everest expedition in 1953.

You follow a spectacular route through the Solukhumbu region to beautiful Sherpa villages, with each village having something new to offer. On the way to Phakding, there is ample opportunity to explore the beautiful forests, cultivated landscape and the many monasteries at high altitude.

The trek from Jiri to Gokyo explores the lower Solukhumbu and the breathtaking Gokyo Valley, which lies in the upper Khumbu region.
