Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathar Trek is a grand journey with a visit to Phortse village that takes you to the base camp of the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest/Sagarmatha (8848 m) and the top of Kala Patthar Peak (5545 m). Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathar are among the most popular in the world for adventure trekking, offering spectacular views of mountains including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other snow-capped mountains and a diverse range of flora and fauna. The trek trail is in the Everest region. The Everest region is covered by the Sagarmatha National Park - the park was established on 19 July 1976, and was designated a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.
The Everest region is also the hometown of the Sherpa people, so their lifestyle, culture, and traditions make for a unique travel experience. The trek to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar is an amazing adventure trip in Nepal that you will never forget. There are many trekking starting points for the Everest Base Camp trek, but those who have less time, start the trek from Lukla and end at Lukla airport, just 35 minutes flight away from Kathmandu airport. The route from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and returning via Tengboche Monastery is more commonly used, but the Everest Base Camp Trek along Phortse Village is designed for those who do not wish to return by the same route.
Phortse village is an agricultural village growing potatoes and buckwheat. Phortse village has also been developed as a model eco-tourism village. From Phortse village (3810 m) you can have spectacular views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Machhermo Peak, Thamserku, Khumbu Yul Lha, and Kwangde Peak. After Phortse village we have to pass through a narrow trail between Phortse village to Pangboche but get more chances to see Himalayan Thar, Yak, Pheasant, and Eagle, etc.
However, the main goal of Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathar Trek is to reach the base camp (5364 m) of Mount Everest and climb the non-technical peak Kala Pathar (5545 m) for a close-up view of Mount Everest and other beautiful mountains. During the visit, you can also witness the views of Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu Icefall, and old Buddhist monasteries like Tengboche Monastery, also known as Dawa Choling Gompa.
