Lhasa to Kathmandu overland tour via Kerung border - start your journey to Tibet with a spectacular flight over the snow capped Himalayan mountains past Mt. Everest, Malaku and Kanchanjunga. In Lhasa visit the famous Potala and Norbulinkha palaces, the great Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and walk amongst the crowded Tibetan market - the bustling Barkor Bazaar. Drive past the beautiful Turquoise lake on the way to the historic town of Gyantse with its unique multi-storied Kumbum Stupa. Our itinerary also includes the famous but rarely visited Shalu and Sakya Monasteries. After visiting the Tashilungpo at Shigatse, Rongbuk monastery and drive to Kyirong (Kerung) town, the new Nepal Tibet border continue drive to Friendship Bridge and Kathmandu.
Kyirong/Kerung (or Gyirong) is the recently reopened crossing border if you want to travel from Nepal to Tibet because the previous one (Zhangmu) suffered serious damages because of the Nepal earthquake in 2015. Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Lhasa by train or air and transfer to downtown Lhasa (3650mts/45km)
Day 02: Sightseeing tour in Lhasa, Potala Palace, Jokang temple, Bharkor Bazar.
Day 03: Visit Drepung and Sera monasteries.
Day 04: Drive Lhasa-Yamdrok lake-Gyantse-Shigatse.(3900Mts/350Km )
Day 05: Drive from Shigatse to Shegar. (4050mts/ 240Km )
Day 06: Drive from Shegar to Rongbuk monastery. (5000mts/ 100Km )
Day 07: Drive from Rongbuk to Kyirong town, the new Nepal Tibet border.( 2800m / 367Km )
Day 08: Drive to Friendship bridge( 20Km ) and then continue to Ktm. (1300Mts/150Km )
