  • Overview of the trek

Nagarkot to Dhulikhel Day Hiking is one of the most scenic and fulfilling day hikes in Nepal. Ideal for travelers who want to enjoy spectacular Himalayan views and immerse themselves in the peaceful countryside, this route offers a perfect escape from the bustle of Kathmandu — just 32 km to Nagarkot and 30 km from Dhulikhel back to the city.

Located at an elevation of 2,163 meters, Nagarkot is a famous hill station known for its sunrise views and panoramic vistas of major Himalayan peaks, including Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, Jugal Himal, and even Mount Everest (visible on clear days, though far away and not easily seen by the naked eye).

After soaking in the views — especially stunning at sunrise — you begin your hike toward Dhulikhel, a charming hill town known for its mountain scenery, Newari culture, and natural beauty. The trail takes around 5 to 6 hours, winding through lush forests, terraced farmlands, and traditional villages. This route is peaceful, with minimal motor traffic, offering a more immersive and authentic hiking experience compared to some other routes.

After reaching Dhulikhel, you can explore the town, relax, or enjoy a local meal before your return drive to Kathmandu — a comfortable end to a rejuvenating day in the hills.

    Alternative Endpoints from Nagarkot

Although the Dhulikhel route is highly recommended, Nagarkot Day Hiking can also be ended at:

    Changu Narayan

A UNESCO World Heritage Site with an ancient Hindu temple. Though historically popular, the route now includes a motor road that has reduced its appeal to hikers seeking more natural trails.

    Sankhu

An old Newari town. This route also involves walking along or near motor roads, which may not suit those looking for a quieter hike.

"A very well-managed tour with a friendly and experienced guide—it was one of the best parts of my trip! I’ve made a great friend in my guide, and I’m sure we’ll stay in touch for a long time. Binod Thapa, I think you’re running a fantastic business, and I’ll definitely use your services again soon. I came to Nepal for the food, the people, and the experience—and found all three in abundance. As a photographer, I’ve seen and captured more than most do in a lifetime. Thank you both for such a memorable journey. I’ll be back! I highly recommend Alpine Adventure Club to everyone planning to travel to Nepal and beyond for trekking, tours, and adventures."
