Nagarkot Day Hiking
Nagarkot Day Hiking is one of the most popular day hiking trips in Nepal. Nagarkot is a beautiful hill station that offers breathtaking views of several major peaks such as Mount Everest (it is very far away and difficult to point and see by eye), Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, Jugal Himal and Rolwaling Himalayan range. It is only 32 km east of Kathmandu where you can reach by private vehicle or public transport. Nagarkot day hike has multiple endpoints which are Changunarayan, Sankhu, and Dhulikhel. Changunarayan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located atop a small hillock in Bhaktapur district. It is the most famous endpoint of the Nagarkot day hiking, but after the construction of a motor road through the hiking trail, not many people prefer hiking there, but still, some hikers can. Sankhu is a very old Newari town, even ending a day's Hike at Sankhu requires hiking on an almost motor road.
To end the day's hike at Dhulikhel, most of the hiking sections do not require hiking on a motor road, but it requires more hours of hiking than Changunarayan and Sankhu.
Dhulikhel is famous for the magnificence of the view of the Himalayas, and it shelters many species of exotic birds, just 30 km east of Kathmandu. If you are interested in hiking for more hours and avoid hiking on motor roads all the time, we recommend that you end the Nagarkot day hike at Dhulikhel.
You will hike for about 5 to 6 hours up and down the hill from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel. The landscapes here are amazing with beautiful villages, cultivable land, and lush green forests. From the hiking route, you will get amazing views of the Himalayas from different points. While hiking on this trail, you feel like you have come completely out of the hustle and bustle of life.
After reaching Dhulikhel you can spend some time at Dhulikhel and have a look around and then come back to Kathmandu by bus or private vehicle. Private vehicles are always recommended after a long day hike.
