Introduction to Mulde (Muldai) Viewpoint Trek
Mulde Viewpoint Trek, also known as Muldai Viewpoint Trek, is a short and scenic trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trek takes you to Muldai Hill (Danda), situated at an altitude of 3,637 meters, where you can enjoy outstanding views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. The trail also offers views of Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, and other impressive Himalayan peaks.
Muldai Hill lies along the route toward Khopra Ridge and has become a popular alternative for trekkers looking for a quieter experience away from the busier trekking trails. The trek can be started and finished at different points depending on your itinerary. Most trekkers begin from Nayapul, which is easily accessible by road from Pokhara, and return to Nayapul after completing the trek. Another option is to start from Ghandruk after a drive from Nayapul. During the monsoon season, however, the road to Ghandruk can sometimes be affected by heavy rainfall.
The main attraction of the trek is the early-morning hike to Muldai Hill. From the top, you can watch the sunrise slowly light up the surrounding Himalayan peaks. On a clear day, the viewpoint offers a wide panorama of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Lamjung Himal ranges, with around 25 mountain peaks visible from the ridge.
The trek is considered moderate and is suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness. The route includes several uphill sections and some steep climbs, but no previous trekking experience is required. A steady pace and good preparation are enough to enjoy the journey.
Our itinerary combines Muldai Hill with the famous Poon Hill, giving you the opportunity to experience two of the best sunrise spots in the Annapurna region. Poon Hill stands at 3,210 meters and is well known for its spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. If you prefer not to include Poon Hill, it is also possible to return along the same trail after visiting Muldai Hill.
The journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, taking around 25 minutes, or a tourist bus journey of approximately 7–8 hours. After spending a night in Pokhara, you can explore the lakeside area around Phewa Lake before driving to Nayapul the following morning. From Nayapul, the trek continues through a mix of flat and uphill trails toward the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk and then to Tadapani.
From Tadapani, the trail climbs through peaceful rhododendron and forest paths toward Dobato at 3,350 meters. This is the final overnight stop before the early-morning hike to Muldai Hill. You will wake up before sunrise and walk uphill to the viewpoint to enjoy one of the finest mountain sunrise experiences in the Annapurna region.
After spending time at Muldai Hill, you continue toward Ghorepani. The trail passes through forested areas, ascending to Deurali before descending to Ghorepani. The following morning, an early hike to Poon Hill allows you to enjoy another spectacular sunrise with panoramic Himalayan views.
After visiting Poon Hill, you descend toward Nayapul via Ulleri and drive back to Pokhara. The next day, you return to Kathmandu by tourist bus or flight, depending on your preferred travel arrangement.
The Mulde Viewpoint Trek is an excellent choice for travelers who want to experience the beauty of the Annapurna region in a relatively short time. The combination of peaceful trails, traditional mountain villages, beautiful forests, and panoramic Himalayan views makes this trek a rewarding and memorable journey in Nepal.
