Mardi Himal and Khopra Trek

Mardi Himal and Khopra Trek

Mardi Himal and Khopra Danda are two popular trekking routes in the Annapurna region of Nepal. These treks offer spectacular views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Doing Mardi Himal and Khopra trek in a single trek is more challenging and takes more days, but is interesting. While trekking on the Mardi Himal area you reach the highest point of 4,500 meters at Mardi Himal Base Camp and while trekking on the Khopra area you reach the highest point of 4,600 meters at Khayer Lake (Khair Lake). Both the trek routes are newly opened for trekking, specially the teahouse facilities of the Mardi Himal route built in 2013. There are some community lodges on the Khopra route where trekkers enjoy staying with the local community. Generally, trekkers first prefer to trek to Mardi Himal and finally to Khopra. The route is mostly uphill, gradually reaching the bottom of the Mardi Himal, making the climb relatively easy, and is one of the more scenic treks in Annapurna.

After visiting Mardi Himal you will descend the hill passing through Landruk village before reaching the Modi riverbank near Landruk village. To reach Tadapani from the banks of Modi River, you have to climb a steep ascent that passes through Ghandruk village. Further Tadapani you need to trek on gradually uphill to reach Bayeli Kharka. From here you have to descend to Lower Chistibang and again climb to Upper Chistibung.

After Upper Chistibung, keep ascending towards Khopra Dande and Khair Lake. After Khair Lake you need to follow almost downhill trail to reach Swanta village. From here again you have to ascend Ghorepani and Poon Hill. From here to reach Nayapul, there is a steep and somewhat flat trail.
