Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the best Himalayan treks in the world. Which gives a feeling of heaven by giving mesmerizing beauty of mighty mountains. The main objective of the Everest Base Camp Trek is to reach the base camp of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. It is a true reality that almost everyone wants to reach Mount Everest Base Camp at least once in their life. Although the climb to the Kala Patthar (5545 m) peak is one of the highlights of this trek. It offers an absolutely stunning panorama of Mount Everest (8848 m), Nuptse (7849 m), Changtse (7543 m), Lhotse (8516 m), and other majestic peaks. Trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal is possible throughout the year but requires a professional mountain guide and porters. But Everest Base Camp Trek for beginners needs to go slow and follow the guide's advice thoroughly.

The Everest Base Camp Trek is not only popular for the views of the Himalayas, but it also offers ethnic settlements, culture, lifestyle, landscapes, river basins, Khumbu Glacier, Icefall, old Buddhist monasteries, and museums. This trek route is located inside the Sagarmatha National Park. Sagarmatha National Park was established in 1976. In 1979, it became the first national park in the country to be inscribed as a Natural World Heritage Site. The park is home to a variety of wildlife such as the red panda, snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan house hare, and over 118 species of birds including the blood pheasant and impeyan pheasant.

The journey to Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathar is not as difficult as you expected, it requires only a basic fitness level, but the most important is to choose the right company that is able to plan your trek carefully.

It is possible to make the Everest Base Camp trek itinerary as short and as long as you need. Generally, 12 days Ebc trek itinerary is more common. The trek starts from Lukla and ends at Lukla. During the trekking season, there are several daily flights in and out of Lukla as the weather permits.


Day 01: Kathmandu flight to Lukla trek to Phakding (2610m)
Day 02: Phakding trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

Day 01: Kathmandu flight to Lukla (2840m) then trek to Phakding (2610m)
Early in the morning your trek guide will come to your hotel to transfer to you in the Kathmandu domestic airport to catch a flight to Lukla (2840m), the flight duration is approximately 35 minutes. After arriving in Lukla you will meet with a porter (Sherpa) who will carry your bags / luggage during the trekking. You will have a short break in Lukla to have a tea and coffee to refresh to heading Everest Base Camp Trekking. The trail contour through the Sherpa village and yak pasture land. Have a lunch in Thado Koshi (2580m) with stunning view of Kusum Kangaru (6370m). You will see the painted Mani wall in Ghat (chhuthawa) village. In the late afternoon you arrive to Phakding. Overnight at teahouse/lodge (small, family run lodge/guest house provide accommodation and meals for the trekkers)

Day 02: Phakding trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)
Normally trekkers start the trek around 8Am after breakfast at teahouse. Today you will cross long suspension bridge over the Dhudh Koshi River which is originated from Khumbu glacier. Today you will enter the Sagarmatha National Park in Monjo village. You have lunch in Jorsale (2740m), the trail goes ahead along the Dudhakoshi river. You cross an anther suspension bridge in Larja Dobhan (2830m), from here the trail moves to steep staircase through pine forest. After half and hour steep walking you will see the Mt Everest (8848m). The trail ascends until Namche Bazaar through the alpine forest. You will be delight to see the Namche Bazaar. The Namche bazaar is the getaway of the Everest base camp trekking and Gokyo Lakes Valley. Overnight at teahouse

Day 03: Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar and Explore around
Rest day in Namche Bazaar is especially for acclimatization to altitude. During this day you can walk around Namche Bazaar. Here you can get many facilities such as internet, Bank, ATM, Bakery and varieties of shops for shopping. After breakfast it is possible visit to the Thame village (Monastery) it takes about 7/8 go and back to Namche bazaar if you are interested to visit Thame better to consult with guide earlier night. Most of trekkers in rest day they walk to Syangboche (3880m). From Syangboche you can see Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Ama Dablam (6814m), Thamserku (6618m) and many more mountains. Have a tea and coffee in the Everest view hotel. The trail descends half and hour to the Khumjung village (3780m), the village of the Sherpas, the worldly renowned climbers. In Khumjung village you can visit Kumjung Hillary School and Kumjung Gompa. After lunch, hike back to the Namche Bazaar. Overnight at teahouse

Day 04: Namche Bazaar trek to Tengboche (3867m)
Today the trail at the first slightly climb up for a while up to the Chor camp continues easy level walk to kyangjuma (3550m). Along the way from chor camp to kyangjuma you can see very close up views of Thamserku (6618m), Ama Dablam (6814m). Also, you can see Mount Everest (8848) and other beautiful mountains. From kyangjuma the trail follows for a while, easy level walk through Rhododendron forest to sanasa where you can meet two trails one left hand side go to Gokyo valley and another right hand side go to direct Everest Base Camp. After sanasa the trail descends gradually through pine forest to lausasa then trail drops steeply through the pine and Rhododendron forest to Phungi thanga (3250m).  From Phungi Thanga the trail climbs steeply at beginning, then a gradual ascent through blue pine trees and Rhododendron forest to Tengboche (3867m). Tengboche is famous as the name of Tengboche Monastery which is one of the beautiful monasteries in the whole Solu khumbu area from where you will see the best sunrise and sunset view on the top of the word’s highest peak Mount Everest. Overnight at teahouse

Day 05: Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m)
After enjoying the sunrise view, take a breakfast, then trek descend Deboche (3820m). After Deboche the trail becomes very pleasant. You will feel very comfortable. Here you have a chance to see Musk deer, pheasant and blue sheep, etc. After crossing Iron Bridge on the right side you can see the great view of Ama Dablam (6814m). May be you can enjoy taking photos of yours backup with Ama Dablam. Then the trail moves gradually up to Pangboche (3930m). After Pangboche the trail lead level and gradually up to shomare (4010m) then level walk to orsho (4190m). There are two trails further ahead from orsho whereas one trail higher up the left hand side leads to Pheriche and lower trail right hand side above Imja khola leads gradually ascend to Dingboche (4410m), the place where we have a plan to stay the night. Overnight at teahouse

Day 06: Acclimatization and exploration day in Dingboche (4410m)
This second scheduled rest day will assist your fitness and oxygen intake at the higher altitudes to follow. An enjoyable 3-4hr, 400m climb to Nangkartshang Gompa, north of Dingboche affords views of Makalu (8,463m) the fifth highest mountain and awesome views of Ama Dablam and the valley floor.  If strong people can visit the Chhukhung Ri (5550m) but it is long day walking. Overnight at teahouse

Day 07: Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m)
From Dingboche to Lobuche the trail leads north until we reach a Mani prayer Stupa. The trail is much gentle looking down to Pheriche Village. The trail offers views of Mt. Tawache, Cholatse, Thamserku Ama Dablam, Pokalde, Kongma-tse and many other lovely mountains. The great wall of Nuptse (7864m) also goes along the trial. After a few hours walking from Dingboche you will meet the trail from Pheriche joins near by Dhughla (4620m) before a small wooden bridge over the river of Khumbu glacier. Dughla (Thukla) is a best place for Lunch and those who afraid about the altitude sickness we suggest to stay one over night here. After Dughla continue trek an hour to Thukla pass (4830m), where there are views of Mt. Pumori, Lubuche east Lingtren and many other peaks. After the Dughla Pass the trail gently climbs up and drops a bit then continue level walk to Loboche (4910m). Overnight at teahouse

Day 08: Lobuche trek to Gorak Shep (5140m) then visit Everest base camp (5364m)
From Lobuche in beginning you walk along the flat trail through the yak pasture trail. Then you have to walk in a glacier. The trail is rough and icy in some part. And you arrive at Gorak Shep (5140m). Along the way you can enjoy incredible views of Pumori (7167m) Lingtren (6713m), Khumbutse (6639m), Nuptse (7879m),  Lobuche East (6090m) as well as Khumbu glacier and Icefall. Have lunch and short rest in Gorak Shep then continue hiking to the Everest Base Camp (5364m). The trail is narrow and rocky so that we suggest trekkers to concentrate their minds in trail before stepping. The Everest base camp is moving up and down every year because Khumbu glacier is moved to the down. In Everest base camp you can’t spend your overnight because there is not available teahouse /lodge facility. After taking footprints at the base camp of Mt Everest then trek back to Gorakshep. The trek trail to Everest Base Camp is on glacier and snow capped rocks. You can also see many small frozen lakes around. Overnight at Teahouse

Day 09: Gorakhep Climb up to Kala patthar (5545m) then trek back to Pheriche (4260m)
Today  early in the morning start to climb up to Kala Patthar for a breathtaking view of the numerous snow-covered mountains with marvelous sunrise. Gorak shep to Kala patthar trail at the beginning is a steep climb about half an hour, then arrive at the flat land after that the trail is steep climb, with lots of bends and 50 meters steeply with rocky climbing to summit at the Kala patter (5545m). Today you will see the Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu Icefall, few lakes and outstanding Himalayas views including Mt Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7864m), Pumori (7165m), Ama dablam (6814m), Thamserku (6618m), Kangtega (6783m), Cholaste (6335m), Tabuche peak (6495m), Lobuche peak (6090m), Lingtren (6713m), Khumbutse (6639m) and many more beautiful mountains. After climbing the Kala Patthar trek back to Gorak Shep then continue to Dughla little further cross the river where you will meet two trails - one left hand side trail go to Dingboche and right hand side lead to Pheriche. It is easy to walk in the valley to reach Pheriche (4260m). Overnight at teahouse

Day 10: Pheriche trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)
Today’s trail descends to Debouche, rises through rhododendron forest to Tengboche. A long descent, leads back to Phunki Thenga before the climb to Sanasa (where the trail forked to Gokyo). The walk along the broad trail to Namche Bazaar is easy. Overnight at teahouse

Day 11: Namche Bazaar trek to Lukla (2840m)
Today's trail descend through the pine forests to Larja dobhan, the confluence of two rivers from where you can see Mt. Everest for the last time. After crossing the bridge at Larja Dobhan the trail descends for a while and then walk along the Dudh Koshi River. Crossing Dudh Koshi continue level walk to Jorsale. After Jorsale the trail lead a bit ascend after that re-crosses the suspension bridge, then short steep climb to Monjo (2835m). After Monjo the trail descend for a while then cross the Dudh koshi over the suspension bridge brings short easy level walk to Benkar after that a bit up and down level walk along the Dudh Koshi valley and re-cross the suspension bridge to reach at Phakding (2610m) After Phakding the trail lead a short descend and a level walk for a while then short steep climb up passes several Buddhist setups at Ghat village. After a short steep climb up to Thado Koshi then a bit descend and re-cross the small bridge then a steep climb up for a short distance and again re-cross the last long suspension bridge on this trek. The trail after the long suspension bridge leads the upwards route to Chheblung then follow uphill left hand side trail climbs steadily past a few local inns and houses then  the trail follows through scrub forest above the school and houses of Chaurikharka village, then a final climb up of your trek about half and hour to reach to Lukla (2840m). Overnight at teahouse

Day 12: Lukla flight to Kathmandu (1350m)
Flights to Kathmandu are generally early in the morning so you may have a breakfast at teahouse early in the morning then check in the airport to fly back in Kathmandu (1350m). After arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your Hotel then end your trip.
