Overview of the Chulu West Peak Climbing

The challenging journey to Chulu West (6,419 meters) begins from a base camp nestled in a small, hidden valley north of Manang, just off the main trail to Thorong La Pass. From base camp, climbers ascend steep scree slopes, reaching a col at 4,900 meters, and then continue up a snow slope to establish a high camp at 5,300 meters, just below a technical rock band. This rock band requires careful navigation, with fixed ropes placed to assist climbers in the ascent.

After reaching the high camp at 5,300 meters, climbers make their final push to the summit along a narrowing ridge. The summit offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna massif, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. The climb combines rock and snow climbing, requiring experience in high-altitude mountaineering and technical skills.

Due to the climb's demanding nature and the high-altitude conditions, climbers must be well-prepared and acclimatized. Expeditions often provide guides and logistical support to ensure a safe and successful climb. Combining the ascent of Chulu West with the famous Around Annapurna trek makes it a memorable and rewarding Himalayan adventure.
