Sundarijal, located just 15 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu, serves as the starting point of this trek. Nestled within Shivapuri National Park, established in 2002, Sundarijal boasts picturesque landscapes, making it an excellent spot for a day out. Here, trekkers can appreciate the natural watershed, magnificent waterfalls, and diverse flora, all while enjoying panoramic views of the valley's rugged peaks.

The first leg of the trek from Sundarijal to Chisapani takes approximately 4–5 hours and involves a challenging uphill journey, with a slight descent before reaching Chisapani at 2140m elevation. Along the way, trekkers pass through Tamang settlements, enjoying lush forests dotted with pine, oak, and rhododendron. Spectacular views of the Himalayas can be witnessed from Chisapani, particularly at sunrise and sunset.

Continuing on to Nagarkot, which takes about 6–7 hours, the trek leads through serene jungles and offers stunning vistas. Nagarkot is renowned for its spectacular sunrise and sunset views, showcasing rays of sunlight kissing the snow-capped peaks including the majestic Mt. Everest in the distance. The final leg from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan takes roughly 3 hours and concludes at the ancient Changu Narayan Temple, known for its exquisite sculptures and rich history.
