Kasturi Labdang Trekking - 15 Days

Travel in Sikkim for Sikkim Kasturi Labdang trekking, is a round trek that goes beyond the Goecha la pass and ends at Tashiding. It is a slightly more challenging trek than the traditional Kanchendzonga trek to Goecha la pass, which returns back on the same route. The trek begins at Yuksom. The path ascends to Tshokha after crossing numerous bridges and the Ratong Chi River. The next stop is at Dzongri, and trekkers pass through the Tshokha village and more alpine forests in order to reach the Phedang alp which lies at an elevation of 3650 meters. The views of the mountains peaks of Kabru, Ratong and Kanchendzonga can be seen clearly on the way to the Dzongri summit. 

From Dzongri, the trail again enters the valley and involves crossing the Prek Chu River. From here, it takes another hour to reach Thangsing which is located on the slopes of Mount Pandim, at an elevation of 3800 meters. From Thangsing, trekkers pass through green meadows and finally reach Onglathang. After passing through tricky glacial moraines, trekkers reach the mesmerizing Lake Samiti, from where the actual climb to Goecha La begins. The journey from Samiti Lake to the Goecha La which lies at an elevation of 4990 meters is a steep ascent which passes through a dry lake at Zemathang.

The next path of the journey is a return back to Thangsing via another route and then move off to the beautiful and remote village of Lampokhari which has a small lake. The trail continues to Chamrey and we have to cross a 4700 m pass to reach Kasturi. The descent then begins to Tashiding via Labdang and the circuitous route is completed. The Kasturi Labdang trek is a more enduring and complete journey to the base of the Kanchenjunga peak. The last two nights of the Kasturi Labdang trek itinerary will give you an opportunity to experience Nepali and Buddhist families home stays respectively.

Itinerary

Day 01 : Pick Up From Bagdogra / Bhadrapur Airport Transfer to Gantok Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02 : Visit do drul Chorten, Institute of Tibetology, Rumtrek Monastery & Handicraft Center.

Day 03 : Picturesque drives to Yuksom (1,780m.) through the beautiful villages and hills- meet our trekking crew and overnight in Camp.

Day 04 : Start treks to Tsoka (3,080m.) through the wilderness and overnight in camp.

Day 05 : Tsoka - Dzongri (4,030m.) and overnight in Camp. Kanchenjunga from Sikkim

Day 06: Hiking to Dzongri - la Pass & Rest day ( visit the views point at a height of 4,100m. for the majestic view of the whole Kanchanjunga Massif.)

Day 07: Early morning enjoy a memorable sunrise against the backdrop of Kanchanjunga from a small hill and descend to Thansing (3,930m.) and overnight in Camp.

Day 08 : A short trek to Samiti (4,200m.) then overnight in Camp.

Day 09: Morning hikes up to Geochala Pass (4,940m.) for awesomely spectacular view of Kanchanjunga Peak and descend back to Thansing and Camp.

Day 10 : Thansing - Lampokhari (4,230m.) then overnight in Camp.

Day 11 : Lampokhari - Kasturi (3,715m.) then overnight in camp.

Day 12: Kasturi - Labdang (1,830m.) then overnight in Camp.

Day 13 : Labdang - Tashiding (4 hrs.) then pick up by a vehicle and drive to Pemayangtse Monastery then transfers to Hotel

Day 14 : In the morning visit Pemayangtse Monastery and explore local inhabitation. In afternoon scenic drive to Silguri (4-5 hrs.) a bustling town in the Indian plain then transfers to Hotel

Day 15: Transfer to Bhadrapur / Bagdora Airport Drop.
