Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
The Ghorpani Poon Hill Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It is a relatively short and easy trek from Pokhara, suitable for beginners or people with little time, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
Ghorepani Poon Hill offers trekking alternatives of 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days and more days depending on the trekking access point and return route you choose. One of the main highlights of the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is the sunrise view from Poon Hill (the highest point of the trek at an altitude of 3,210 meters).
From this vantage point, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views including Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Nilgiri (7,041 m), Bharha Shikhar (7,647 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Hiunchuli (6,434 m), Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Annapurna II (7,939 m), Annapurna III (7,555 m), Annapurna IV (7,525 m), and Lamjung Himal (6,988 m).
The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek often starts from Nayapul, which is about a one and half hour drive from Pokhara. But today a motorable road is available from Nayapul to Ulleri or Banthanti which gives the option of going by jeep. On foot from Nayapul, you will trek through the charming villages of Birethanti and Hile before reaching Tikhedhunga. This initial part of the trek involves a relatively gentle ascent and passes through terraced fields, small settlements, and lush green forests.
From Tikhedhunga the trek involves a steep climb up to Ulleri, a village located on a hillside. This section is known for its stone-paved steps, which can be quite challenging but rewarding. From Ulleri, the trail continues through rhododendron and oak forests.
After passing through Banthanti, you will cross several streams and waterfalls before reaching Nangethanti village, where you can take a break and enjoy some refreshments. The trail then continues uphill to Ghorepani (2,855 m). The next morning, you will wake up early to hike to Poon Hill, which is renowned for its panoramic sunrise views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
After visiting Poon Hill come back to Ghorepani, you will trek to Tadapani, which is known for its beautiful rhododendron forests. The trail first ascends and descends through forests and terraced fields, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountains. From Tadapani, you can continue to the village of Ghandruk, known for its Gurung culture and traditional houses. Ghandruk offers stunning views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
From Ghandruk, trekkers have many options to continue their journey, either end the trek and drive directly to Pokhara on the same day or continue the trek till Nayapul and drive to Pokhara. But our itinerary given below requires you to continue the trek till Dhampus Phedi, it goes through Landdruk village, Tolkha, Pitam Deurali, Pothana and Dhampus Phedi. From here you will drive to Pokhara and the next day drives or fly back to Kathmandu.
If you want to extend this trekking, you can extend with Magdi Tatopani or Jhinu Danda (both places provide the best natural hot springs to take a bath). And it is also possible to extend this trekking to Mohare Danda, Khopra Ridge, Mulde Hill, or Mardi Himal.
